Ava’s perfect summer in LA!
Los Angeles is rightfully known for its beautiful weather, beaches, outdoor activities, and sightseeing. As a SoCal native born and raised on the West Side, my summer hobbies consist of music, tanning, exercising, and eating around Los Angeles, and here is what I have found through my research:
A sandwich, a book, and a beach chair are all mandatory on a hot day. The beach is your best friend in LA, especially since it can feel quite hectic and hot in the city at times.
My go-to spots are Longfellow Street in Hermosa Beach and Will Rogers State Beach just north of Santa Monica.
If you like to surf or want to watch others, El Porto in Manhattan Beach is a great place with parking and restaurants within walking distance.
2. We know LA is a haven for wellness lovers, so hiking, going for walks, biking, or running is even more common than usual during the summer. I try to spend part of all my summer days by myself or with my friends, bonding over an activity like these!
You can never go wrong with walking, biking, or running along the bike path anywhere from County Line in Malibu to Redondo Beach!
Venice Run Club and Hermosa Beach Run Club are two sizable outdoor run clubs that meet throughout the week year-round. Both are free of charge and have friendly crowds to run with near the ocean! Information can be found on their Instagram sites @venicerunclub and @hermosarunclub.
A hidden gem is the Point Vincente path in a neighborhood called Palos Verdes, which is located on a cliff along the ocean about 45 minutes west of USC.
Griffith Park also has many trails of varying difficulty and views of the Observatory, Hollywood Sign, and the city altogether!
3. For the best eats in LA, I will never stop recommending restaurants in the Venice Beach area. Any of these never disappoints. Trust me.
Gjusta Goods
Ggjiatta Delicatessen
Bluey’s Mar Vista
Dudley Market
Ospi
Gjelina
Fig Tree Cafe
Flake
26 Beach
Great White
The Butcher’s Daughter
The Waterfront Venice
The Firehouse
4.. Free concerts in the park or at some of the most beautiful outdoor venues like The Greek Theater or The Hollywood Bowl are a must during the summer in LA for me.
I saw Willie Nelson, Billy Strings, Tyler Childers, and Mumford and Sons over a month at the Hollywood Bowl. Talk about a good schedule.
Jazz at LACMA is presented Friday evenings from May through October, which is a unique group outing to do with friends or family
Bigger music festivals like Beach Life in Redondo Beach, Rolling Loud, or Hard Summer are fun with friends, too!
I hope you can attempt, combine, or share as many of these suggestions. Summertime in Los Angeles is for good food, people, and activities!
